Sometimes the words hits you and make you think about yourself and how you treat yourself。 It is written in simple language and might seem like cheap talk but I think it is a very nice view on growing with a pinch of humor。 Red it for the second tíme and I enjoyed it again。

This book was assigned to me as a reading about 20 years ago, but I am just getting around to reading it。 I found it an enjoyable read, making the points you would expect it to, but in a well-written novel format。

Heading into the book I thought it was meant to be non-fiction。 If this book is non-fiction, I’ll have what he’s having man。

I read this book about 15 years ago。 I was maybe 9 or 10 so I had very little understanding of it's metaphors, messages, and themes。 All these years later, I can even more confidently say it is an outstanding novel。 Religions and schools of thought throughout time and history preach the importance of finding meaning in your life beyond material gains。 While all the 1-star reviews of this book come from greedy, ivory-tower elites who can't imagine a life where 1) they don't have a flatscreen TV i I read this book about 15 years ago。 I was maybe 9 or 10 so I had very little understanding of it's metaphors, messages, and themes。 All these years later, I can even more confidently say it is an outstanding novel。 Religions and schools of thought throughout time and history preach the importance of finding meaning in your life beyond material gains。 While all the 1-star reviews of this book come from greedy, ivory-tower elites who can't imagine a life where 1) they don't have a flatscreen TV in every room and 2) there might be someone out there with 1 more flatscreen than them, this book blends together mythology and philosophy the world over and uses Millman's own experiences as a young NCAA athlete to articulate that when you treat yourself like someone you're responsible for and refuse to be distracted by worldly possessions and titles and statuses, you can find all that you really need out of this existence。 。。。more

Truly eye-opening for me。 This is especially helpful for those who struggle with being in the present moment。 There are many quotable statements that are meaningful to me。

Highly rated book that I found lacking。 My son was reading this for an assignment he had, so I wanted to read it too so we could discuss it。 I found it hard to stick with because it wasn't well written。 I didn't find the characters that interesting and didn't feel compelled to find out what happened to them next。 He had 5 or 6 good precepts 。。。 and then a lot of filler in between。 It's the kind of story you want to like, but it just falls short。 Highly rated book that I found lacking。 My son was reading this for an assignment he had, so I wanted to read it too so we could discuss it。 I found it hard to stick with because it wasn't well written。 I didn't find the characters that interesting and didn't feel compelled to find out what happened to them next。 He had 5 or 6 good precepts 。。。 and then a lot of filler in between。 It's the kind of story you want to like, but it just falls short。 。。。more

Some parts dragged, others offered humor and valuable spiritual insight。 Found at a yard sale in LA at a point where I definitely needed to remember the oneness and lightness of it all

A book that raises more questions than actually providing answers。 I'm not sure if the book is supposed to be based on Dan's real life experiences or if the book is actually fiction。 There are a few important life lessons that we could get out of this book, but it's deeply hidden within the convoluted story telling that blends real life events and obviously fictional events。 I'm slightly triggered that it took him multiple chapters just to relay a simple message - live in the moment。 In the end, A book that raises more questions than actually providing answers。 I'm not sure if the book is supposed to be based on Dan's real life experiences or if the book is actually fiction。 There are a few important life lessons that we could get out of this book, but it's deeply hidden within the convoluted story telling that blends real life events and obviously fictional events。 I'm slightly triggered that it took him multiple chapters just to relay a simple message - live in the moment。 In the end, it somehow felt like all the hurdles in his life were self induced。 And everything could've been better if he didn't choose to abandon everything for the way of the warrior。 。。。more

I wanted to love this book。 I greatly enjoyed the movie, and had high expectations for the literary representation of cinematic symbolism that the movie brought。 Unfortunately, instead of doing the due diligence of emotional world building to show the reader profound lessons, Dan just tells us that profound things happen。 It’s clear that he was transformed by his experiences, but as a writer he does not effectively create a journey for his readers。 Save your time and see the movie。

A nice story filled with nuggets of philosophical wisdom。 Not the most entertaining thing in the world, but nice。

Inspirational book。 Not only is it good in the story of perseverance but there are some great life lessons in this story。 Things like humility, overcoming his arrogance and becoming a decent human being are all encased in this story。 When they climb the mountain and the moral is that the journey is what makes us happy; not the destination。 There are a plethora of whimsical comments throughout the book and well worth the read。 Highly recommend。
